Although questionable drug-testing procedures are a subject of a lot of controversy heading into Saturday’s UFC On FOX 15 event in Newark, New Jersey, it appears as though the use of “instant replay” during the show will not be an issue.
Nick Lembo, counsel for the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, the sanctioning body that will oversee Saturday’s event at the Prudential Center, informed members of the MMA media that instant replay will be used during the event if-and-when a situation warrants it.
Recently, the use of instant replay has not been available for fighters to challenge actual decisions. However, it has come in handy in between rounds when a designated member of the athletic commission deemed it necessary to review a decision or act made by a referee during a fight.
“We are not going to be nit-picking referee calls,” former commissioner Larry Hazzard told Yahoo! Sports back in October. “We are not going to have debates on issues. It has to be something we’re sure of. And, it’s not something we’re looking forward to using. We hope we never have to. But, it is a safe guard for the fighters’ sake.”
