UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones announced today that he has entered a drug rehabilitation facility after testing positive for benzoylecgonine (the main metabolite of cocaine).
Jones released the following statement through his attorney:
“With the support of my family, I have entered into a drug treatment facility. I want to apologize to my fiancee, my children, as well as my mother, father and brothers for a mistake that I made. I also want to apologize to the UFC, my coaches, my sponsors and equally important, to my fans. I am taking this treatment program very seriously. Therefore, at this time, my family and I would appreciate privacy.”
The story was first reported by Kevin Iole at Yahoo Sports. The unannounced test was administered on December 4th. He later took another test and passed. There is no word yet on when he took the second test.

Since the Nevada commission follows the WADA code, the commission was unable to penalize him or prevent him from fighting this past Saturday despite the positive test result since benzoylecgonine is not banned out-of-competition.
The commission will be discussing out-of-competition drug tests and talk about whether to break from WADA code for situations like this.
