You may remember that as part of the terms of Jon Jones avoiding jail time for leaving the scene of a crash where a pregnant woman was injure, he will be speaking to at risk youth in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the next year and a half. It turns out that he was already doing that. Stephen Marrocco of MMAJunkie talked to Denise White, the CEO of EAG Sports Management, which represents Jones and shared details of some of the things he’d been doing in his downtime.
Apparently, Jones has been a regular at the Albuquerque Boys and Girls Club, speaking to and hanging out with the kids there. White explained that “He’s been speaking at schools and kids organizations for quite some time. His message is a little different now. His message to kids now is one that is very poignant. He just has a great message to tell these kids about coming back from adversity and righting your wrongs and not making the same mistakes twice.”
While UFC President Dana White had said Jones would get a title shot when he straightens his life out and returns, his UFC disciplinary suspensions has not yet been lifted since his case was adjudicated. Denise White said that on that front, she’s “sure they’re going to be reinstating him; I don’t have any doubt about that at all. But they want to make sure they’ve gone through their due diligence before they do so.”
So, what does she say his priorities are right now?
Really with Jon right now, it’s getting him where he needs to be and doing the things he needs to do for the court so he can come back and be a productive citizen [like] before all this happened. Way before this all happened, but a lot during his time off, people wondered what he was doing. What he was doing was a) training, and b) going and hanging out with the kids at the Boys and Girls Club, which I thought was really good for him. Obviously, he has something to tell them.
