Jones, Cormier Comment On Their Fight Being Moved To January

Following the report that came out on Tuesday revealing the fact that Jon Jones suffered an injury, forcing his fight with Daniel Cormier to be postponed, the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion took to Facebook to apologize to his fans.

“I’d like to apologize to all the fans who were excited for UFC 178,” wrote the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion on Facebook. “Earlier this week, I suffered an injury while training for the fight. I’m having surgery tomorrow and I’m focused on recovering as quickly as possible. I look forward to getting back in the gym and defending my title on Jan. 3 in Las Vegas.”

Jones’ opponent — Daniel Cormier — offered the following comments to the MMA Fighting website regarding his fight with Jones being moved to UFC 182 in January.

“It’s very disappointing. I started to train very hard. It’s a little discouraging, but now I have time to get completely healthy. I don’t know how hurt Jon is but we have to remember that I took this fight with a pre-existing (knee) injury. I could have fought through it, I just wish he would have done the same.”

As a result of the Jones injury, UFC 178 will now be headlined by a UFC Flyweight Championship bout, as Demetrious Johnson will put his title on the line against Chris Cariaso on September 27, 2014 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
