Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor Title Fight Pushed Back To Mid-Summer?

Plans for a Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor UFC Featherweight Championship fight have been pushed back, according to John Kavanagh, McGregor’s head coach at SBG Ireland.

Although UFC President Dana White stated immediately after McGregor’s victory over Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night 59 that his title shot against Aldo would likely take place in Las Vegas, Nevada in May, which would have likely been the UFC 187 pay-per-view, Kavanagh told NewsTalk Breakfast that the fight is expected to take place in July, which will likely be the UFC 189 pay-per-view.

“It’s not 100-percent yet,” said Kavanagh of plans to push back the fight date. “There was talk of a May date. It may now actually be later in the year.”

Kavanagh continued, “I get a lot of tweets and messages, people wanting to book their flights. I would just say hold on, hold on until the UFC officially announces. But it does look like it’ll be later in the year.”

Kavanagh went on to mention July as a possible date for the fight.

While the date for the fight may have changed, the location still appears to be Las Vegas.

“I would certainly love [the fight] to be Ireland,” said Kavanagh. “Unfortunately, there’s a few problems. It would have to be in a stadium, maybe Croke Park. The problem with that is you have a curfew. 11 p.m. it has to all shut down.”

Kavanagh continued, “Whereas, they did a big event in Stockholm last weekend, but they didn’t start until 2 or 3 a.m. Stockholm time, pay-per-view time in the States. They have a massive drop in revenue and also the cost of setting up Croke Park with all the major screens. We’re hoping to go over there and win the belt, and then twist their arm a little bit more and get the first defense in Dublin.”
