Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida was recently asked his thoughts about “The Notorious” Conor McGregor, specifically a title fight with Jose Aldo and the way he promotes himself.
Machida said he respects McGregor, but thinks Aldo is technically superior to him.
“If you’re going to compare him to Jose Aldo, Aldo is technically better,” said Machida during an interview with MMAFighting.com. “(McGregor) is a tough fighter, he’s coming out strong, but you can’t say he beats Aldo. Aldo is too dominant.”
“The Dragon” also spoke about McGregor’s style of self-promotion, claiming there’s nothing wrong with the way he conducts himself outside of the cage.
“He can promote himself the way he wants. I don’t see (McGregor) as a bad person,” Machida said. “He’s right, he’s promoting himself this way, and we have to respect him.”
“It’s not my style to talk trash to my opponents. I have techniques to get (to a title fight) in a way that I think it’s the right way. If you win fights convincingly, it makes it easier.”
Lyoto Machida returns to the Octagon against C.B. Dollaway at UFC Fight Night in Sao Paulo, Brazil on December 20, 2014.
