Conor McGregor Appeals NSAC Ruling, Inquires About Boxing Licence (Nevada)

Conor McGregor has personally addressed the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) requesting a rehearing of details in his disciplinary case.

Reports claim that the NSAC will putt the UFC lightweight champion’s request to a members’ vote. McGregor allegedly “met with NSAC Chairman Anthony A. Marnell and Executive Director Bob Bennett on Tuesday in Las Vegas” according to ESPN.

The NSAC have confirmed that the Dubliner’s request for a re-hearing will be raised at their next meeting on March 22.

McGregor was initially slapped with a $75,000 fine, in addition to a sentence of 50 hours of community service including a public-service announcement to the value of $75,000. The NSAC’s ruling came in October 2016, for Mcgregor’s part in the “water bottle” debacle at a press conference where he clashed with Nate Diaz and his entourage prior to UFC 202.

Diaz was hit with a punishment of $50,000 50 hours of community service by the NSAC in December for his part in the disorder. Should the commission change any of the details of McGregor’s punishment then Diaz’s terms of discipline would need to be reviewed in terms of equality.

Bennett stated that McGregor’s application for a licence to box in the state of Nevada was a topic of discussion at their meeting on Tuesday, yet no mention of Floyd Mayweather was dropped. Notably, Bennett did state that he would “cross that bridge when we get there,” in reference to the sanctioning of a boxing match between the two men.

While this news may point towards a manoeuvre of sorts in terms of a showdown with Mayweather, such has been the contrast in reports on Tuesday that collective breaths should not be held too long.
