Nevada Athletic Commission Likely To Overturn Silva’s UFC 183 Victory Over Diaz

This week has gone from bad to worse for former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva.

After testing positive for two performance-enhancing drugs in an out-of-competition test leading up to his UFC 183 bout with Nick Diaz, Silva received some more bad news from the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC).

According to NAC Executive Director Bob Bennett, Silva’s victory over Diaz will likely be overturned to a “no contest” ruling at the next NAC hearing.

Bennett recently stated the following:

“Yes, it will be ruled a NC (no contest). I don’t know if he will receive the win bonus after this change. That’s UFC’s call, but a percentage of his purse will be held because of this episode.”

If true, the “no contest” ruling could have a significant financial impact on Silva, as he would likely lose his “win bonus,” which was announced as being $200,000, and would also be hit with what is expected to be a hefty fine from the NAC.

If the win is overturned, Silva’s last victory inside the Octagon will date back to his UFC 153 TKO over Stephan Bonnar in 2012.
