UFC announced on Thursday the first official challenger to Rafael dos Anjos for the UFC Lightweight Championship.
Rafael dos Anjos won the UFC 155-pound title by defeating Anthony Pettis in March, but was sidelined temporarily with a knee injury.
On Saturday, December 19 in Orlando, Florida, dos Anjos will make the first defense of his championship reign against the highly regarded Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone on a show live on FOX.
Cerrone noted earlier this week that he would not wait for a UFC Lightweight title shot past a certain date, and if he had to, he would move up to 170 pounds to get a fight, however UFC ultimately pulled the trigger on giving “Cowboy” the shot.
