Rafael Dos Anjos Suffers Injury, Conor McGregor Fight Off

According to multiple reports, UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos suffered a broken foot in training recently and will not be cleared to compete at UFC 196 vs. Conor McGregor.

Dos Anjos, who defended his title in December vs. Donald Cerrone, will likely be sidelined indefinitely with the injury.

McGregor, the current UFC featherweight titleholder, could still remain on the March 5 card if a replacement is found. Previously, the Irish fighter faced Chad Mendes on just days notice after an injury forced then-UFC champ Jose Aldo out.

Late in 2015, “Notorious” defeated Aldo via knockout in just 13 seconds to unify the featherweight belts. In all, McGregor has had four opponent changes in his eight scheduled UFC fights.

Most signs point to either Nate Diaz or Donald Cerrone stepping in to meet McGregor. Frankie Edgar, a top contender at featherweight and a former lightweight champion, is sidelined with an injury.

Holly Holm vs. Miesha Tate for the female bantamweight title is the scheduled co-main event from Las Vegas and the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

We’ll continue to update the situation here at MMANews.com.
