Although many were surprised to hear that Daniel Cormier will be making the first defense of his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship against Alexander Gustafsson instead of Ryan Bader, a former champion recently spoke up and pointed out that he wants to stand across from “Darth Bader” inside the Octagon.
It was reported by respected veteran MMA journalist Ariel Helwani on this week’s edition of UFC Tonight that former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans, who is expected to return in September from knee surgery, wants his comeback fight to be against Bader.
Helwani reported on the show that Evans claimed Bader would be the perfect opponent for his comeback fight to “put him right back in the mix” in the new 205-pound landscape, now that former champion and Evans-teammate Jon Jones is out of the picture due to legal troubles.
Whether or not the fight will come to fruition remains to be seen, although considering the fact that the top two fighters in the current active division — Cormier and Gustafsson — are tied up, one would assume that an Evans-Bader fight would be a pretty likely possibility.
