As noted, the scheduled welterweight bout between former TUF Champion Kelvin Gastelum and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone has been scratched from the lineup for Saturday night’s UFC 205: Alvarez vs. McGregor event in New York City.
Gastelum failed to make weight for the fight during the official UFC 205 weigh-ins on Friday morning, resulting in the UFC pulling the fight from the card.
Soon after the news broke, UFC issued the following statement via their official website, UFC.com, which also addresses Thiago “Pitbull” Alves missing weight by several pounds for his scheduled lightweight bout against Jim Miller.
Saturday night’s UFC 205 card will now proceed with 11 bouts and a five-fight main card after the Kelvin Gastelum vs. Donald Cerrone match was removed due to Gastelum missing weight on Friday morning for the welterweight matchup.
Cerrone will be paid his show money for the bout.
Thiago Alves also missed weight for his lightweight debut against Jim Miller, as he clocked in at 162.6 pounds. Alves will be fined 20 percent of his purse, but the bout will proceed as scheduled due to Miller coming in within five pounds of his opponent. As agreed to by all involved parties, Alves can’t weigh in more than 173 pounds on fight day.
