UFC officially announced the opponent for Dominick Cruz’s first title defense for his latest run as UFC Bantamweight Champion at the UFC: “Unstoppable” press conference held prior to the official UFC 196: McGregor vs. Diaz weigh-ins on Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Cruz was stripped of the 135-pound title after prolonged inactivity due to injuries, but recaptured the belt in his latest comeback fight against the now former UFC Bantamweight Champion, TJ Dillashaw.
At the UFC “Unstoppable” press conference to announce and kick-off the promotion for UFC’s upcoming fights for April through June, UFC President Dana White announced Cruz will compete in the long-awaited trilogy bout against longtime career rival “The California Kid” Urijah Faber.
Additionally, it was announced that UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold will make the first defense of his newly acquired 185-pound title in an immediate rematch against former champion Chris Weidman. The Rockhold-Weidman 2 bout will serve as the main event of UFC 199.
