Another high-profile UFC main event has bit the dust.
Originally scheduled for UFC On FOX 16 on July 25th in Chicago, former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis will no longer be bouncing back from his first loss since becoming champion by fighting top-ranked contender Myles “Fury” Jury.
Pettis is officially out of the bout after suffering an injury during training. Pettis suffered torn ligaments and a torn muscle in one of his arms while working some wrestling training on Tuesday evening.
“Showtime” Pettis is scheduled to miss approximately four-to-six months after undergoing surgery to repair the injuries he sustained earlier this week.
As a result of Pettis being scratched from the lineup, fellow top-ranked UFC Lightweight contender Edson Barboza will step up to challenge Jury in one of the new featured bouts of the evening.
UFC On FOX 16 is scheduled to Saturday, July 27th at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
