ORIGINAL STORY:
UFC announced today that former UFC Welterweight king Georges St-Pierre has been medically cleared by a Los Angeles doctor to return to competition.
In the latest edition of UFC Download, Dana White claimed that GSP is now able to resume full MMA training just seven months after tearing his left ACL during training.
The UFC story also confirmed previous reports that White and UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta met with GSP in Montreal earlier this week.
“They cleared GSP’s knee,” White said. “After surgery like that it still takes about another 30 days before you start to mentally feel right. But he’s in a good spot.”
White appeared optimistic regarding the chances of St-Pierre returning to the Octagon down the line, but said he has yet to begin discussions with the former champion about the logistics of a return.
“His knee just got cleared and he’ll start training again and getting back into shape. He’ll let us know when he’s ready,” White said.
UFC has guaranteed fellow Canadian Rory MacDonald the next shot at the title, including the fact that said-fight will take place on Canadian soil, however when the subject of a MacDonald versus GSP fight came up, White said that while he has yet to talk about the issue, he’s confident things will work themselves out.
“We didn’t even talk about that,” White said. “I’ve always had the feeling – they’re both professionals and when the time comes and if the time comes, they’ll figure it out.”
