UFC’s New Anti-Doping Policy A “Step In The Right Direction” Towards A GSP Comeback

While nearly everything about UFC’s new anti-doping policy is positive for so many reasons, we have just learned of one more.

According to the latest edition of UFC Tonight on FOX Sports 1, veteran MMA journalist spoke with sources close to the Georges St-Pierre camp who informed him that UFC’s more strict drug testing policy is a “step in the right direction to bring him back.”

St-Pierre last fought at UFC 167 in November of 2013, edging out a razor-thin split decision victory over Johny Hendricks to retain his UFC Welterweight Championship, and allowing him the dignity of walking away from the sport as a champion on 12-fight win streak.

Apparently the performance-enhancing drug issue was not the only obstacle standing between GSP and a UFC comeback, however for now one can only speculate as to what the other hurdles are that must be cleared before we can see the legendary St-Pierre grace us with his presence in the Octagon.

As far as the UFC Welterweight division he left behind, current UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler will be defending the 170-pound title against GSP teammate and fellow Canadian Rory MacDonald in the co-main event of UFC 189, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
