Not only did Brock Lesnar appear on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Monday to talk about his shocking surprise return to the Octagon at UFC 200 next month, he also spoke with his longtime “advocate,” friend and on-air partner in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Paul Heyman.
Embedded above is part one of an exclusive video interview with Lesnar conducted by Heyman for his Heyman Hustle website. In the interview, Lesnar talks at length about the preparation for his upcoming Octagon return against number eight ranked UFC heavyweight contender and former K-1 champion Mark Hunt.
Lesnar noted that the main reason he is returning to MMA is because he wants to, because it’s fun. He mentioned that the last images of himself as a fighter weren’t the ones he wanted to leave behind, pointing out that he was selfishly trying to over-power diverticulitis and ended up cheating himself out of his best potential performances as a result.
“The Beast Incarnate” noted that he’s not back to avenge any of the losses he has had inside the Octagon, mentioning Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem specifically as guys who defeated him in the past. Instead, Lesnar stated that he is coming back to avenge the loss he felt he suffered to diverticulitis.
Lesnar noted that the timing feels right and reiterated the point he made on ESPN on Monday morning, which is that it was he who called the UFC about returning to the fight game, and not the other way around. He said he has already begun putting together his training camp for the 7/9 fight against Hunt, mentioning Marty Morgan by name as someone he will be working with during the build-up to the big fight in Las Vegas.
The Lesnar vs. Hunt fight joins Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship, Miesha Tate vs. Amanda Nunes for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship, Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar for the Interim UFC Featherweight Championship and a heavyweight contender bout between Cain Velasquez and Travis Browne as the main card fights scheduled for the pay-per-view portion of UFC 200.
UFC 200: Cormier vs. Jones 2 is scheduled for Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Make sure to join us here at MMANews.com on 7/9 for the best UFC 200 live results coverage on the web!
