At UFC 189 this past weekend, CM Punk spoke with members of the MMA media about a number of subjects, including his progress as an aspiring UFC fighter.
During the media scrum, which you can watch above, Punk claims his trainer — Duke Roufus — is telling him that his striking is his best area in MMA right now.
“You know, believe it or not and I don’t ask, but everybody asks Duke [Roufus]: ‘Oh, how’s he doing?’ and Duke tells everybody he thinks my best area right now is striking, believe it or not,” said Punk. “Which is mind-boggling to me because the striking is the one thing I never did. Like, I’ve hit mits before and I’ve done boxing and stuff like that, but it’s the little nuances with like everything you need to do with your feet, with your head. Movement. Correct movement.”
Punk concluded, “So, that’s been the most challenging thing aside from wrestling, but you know, Duke says I’m doing OK and Duke won’t lie to me.”
As reported last week, CM Punk says he expects to make his Octagon debut in December of 2015 or January of 2016.
