Dana White addressed the Anderson Silva retirement talk during a post-UFC 183 interview with Jon Anik, Daniel Cormier and Michael Bisping on the FOX Sports 1 post-show on Saturday night.
The UFC President seemed to dismiss the talk that Silva could be done with his professional fighting career after his victory over Nick Diaz in the main event of Saturday’s fight card in Las Vegas, Nevada.
White said, “Yeah, I mean anytime that Anderson talks publicly, whether it’s to the press or whatever, you always walk away going, ‘What just happened? Did he just retire?'”
“Anderson Silva is a competitor,” White continued. “I think he wanted to come in tonight and get over this …I mean, you guys know better than anybody knows, when you’re coming off an injury, you always feel a little …you know. This guy broke his shin in half. I mean, that’s a serious injury to come back from. This isn’t basketball, this isn’t baseball — this is combat sports, where you go in and you have full contact with another human being and you know, Anderson made it five rounds tonight.”
Regarding the Silva-Diaz fight itself, White spoke about the individual rounds, sharing his opinion that many of them were close.
“To not give Nick Diaz one round of that fight is crazy,” said White.
