VIDEO: Frank Mir Talks Brock Lesnar/UFC Return Rumors, Elaborates On “Calling Him Out”

On the latest edition of UFC’s “Rankings Report” website feature (which you can watch above), Frank Mir elaborated on “calling out” former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar in a recent interview.

Mir spoke with the UFC website about the current top ten rankings following Saturday’s UFC 179 event and was later asked to compare Conor McGregor’s rise through the UFC ranks to that of Lesnar’s.

“There was big media rolling behind both of them and I think that’s where comparisons would probably end,” said Mir. “Brock had one fight and because of his name he was able to get right into the UFC and to main event fights. He did do great things in the sport, but he was handed a lot of them early on because of his name.” Mir continued, “Whereas Conor — he does have a great name and a lot of marketing behind him, but he’s also earned a lot of it with fighting. It wasn’t like he was an actor, he wasn’t a soccer player. He has all this notoriety with his fighting ability.”

Mir was also asked where he feels Lesnar would stand in the current Heavyweight landscape of the UFC.

“You know, it’s really hard because obviously he’s a dominant force and he’s a great wrestler,” said Mir. “He’s a great athlete, but his career was cut there near the end due to …I mean, he had the two losses. Cain Velasquez was able to handily beat him, but, you know, that’s a long list of guys that he’s on that got beat by Cain soundly. And then he got beat by Alistair [Overeem], but really it was the diverticulitis that really cut his career short with the UFC. So really, I think it’d be hard to judge where Brock is until he goes out there and performs and we see.”

When asked to elaborate on reports that he “called out” Lesnar in a recent media interview, Mir says that’s not the case, as he was simply asked if he would fight him again and he said he would.

“It was funny.” says Mir. “When I got asked that it was the same thing like, ‘hey, if Brock comes back, would you fight him?’ And I was like, ‘well, yeah.’ And everybody was like ‘Mir called out Brock!'”
