Wanderlei Silva Faces No Discipline Today, NSAC Tables Discussion

The Nevada State Athletic Commission tabled discussion today of Wanderlei Silva’s non-compliance with an unannounced drug test after Silva’s lawyer, Ross Goodman, challenged the commission’s authority to discipline someone who is not licensed.

In fact, Silva was not licensed when the drug test was brought to him in his gym back in May by a commission representative, however he was on the schedule to fight Chael Sonnen at the July 5th UFC event in Las Vegas. Silva left his gym and then disappeared, later claiming that he had been using diuretics due to some swelling he had from an injury he sustained during the infamous brawl with Sonnen on the set of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil.

Goodman, one of the best lawyers in Nevada, who also represented Sonnen recently for his issues with the NSAC for a Metamoris event, argued that the commission had no jurisdiction over a fighter who is not licensed.

The commission decided to table the discussion of the Silva case today until a later date. Silva himself did not appear at the hearing, as he was scheduled for public appearances today in Canada.
