UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum is set to to defend his championship in a rematch with former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez soon, however the date had not yet been officially set.
There had been speculation that the fight would take place in Brazil in March, but now UFC Tonight‘s Ariel Helwani reports that it could go down on SuperBowl weekend in February Las Vegas at UFC 196.
“The UFC wanted to book Fabricio Werdum vs. Cain Velasquez in Curitiba, Brazil in March, but they’ve been having problems finalizing a location and details,” Helwani detailed. “I’ve heard now the UFC is considering moving the fight to Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas, on February 6.”
Nothing is set in stone as of yet, but given the availability of both contenders, Werdum vs. Velasquez 2 could fit the bill as UFC 196’s main event.
