Wilson Reis has seen Demetrious Johnson’s ground game and he is not impressed.
Reis will battle Johnson for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight title on April 15. The title bout is set to take place inside the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. “Mighty Mouse” vs. Reis will serve as the main event of UFC on FOX 24.
The challenger has been studying the champion throughout his dominant reign. It has been so dominant that if Johnson beats Reis, he’ll tie Anderson Silva’s record for most successful consecutive UFC title defenses at 10. Reis told MMAFighting.com that the holes in Johnson’s ground game may see him fall short of tying the record:
“This is the biggest fight of my career, for sure. It’s the UFC belt. But that doesn’t change anything in the way I prepare for the fight. It’s still a training camp for a fight, so that doesn’t change much, no. What I saw in that fight is what I already knew. The same openings I saw on the ground, he was exposed. That’s something I can work on. If you look at his game, what you can really work on is his jiu-jitsu. He’s good standing, his Muay Thai, and his wrestling is great, too, but the ground is the weakest aspect of his game. I wasn’t impressed. It actually confirmed what I already knew.”
