UFC Jacksonville Results: Anthony Smith vs. Glover Teixeira

UFC Jacksonville went down tonight (Wed. May 13, 2020) from Florida at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena and we have the results. The world’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion compiled an excellent card for fight fans to enjoy. 

It was headlined by a meeting between Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira in a light heavyweight bout.

The co-headliner saw a heavyweight bout between Ben Rothwell and Ovince Saint Preux, which marked the first time in the UFC that OSP fought above 205 pounds. 

Drew Dober vs. Alexander Hernandez in a lightweight bout and Ray Borg vs. Ricky Simon in a bantamweight bout made up part the six bout main card. 

Anthony Smith vs. Glover Teixeira

Smith was lighting him up in round one with some nice combos. There was a pause in the action for a strike to the groin. Teixeira had a cut on the bridge of his nose. In the second round, Smith got him with a nice strike and it swelled up the left eye of Teixeira. Moments later, Teixeira got fired up and started swarming him with strikes up against the fence. Smith started to slow down. In round three, Smith caught a body kick and put Teixeira on his back but Teixeira got back to his feet. Teixeira caught him with a good shot that looked like an eye poke but it went on. Teixeira swarmed him with strikes up against the fence that dropped Smith. Teixeira landed some big shots from mount then back mount but somehow Smith survived the round. Right out of the gate in round 4, Teixeira landed a major league uppercut that rocked Smith. Moments later, Teixeira connected with some good uppercuts then got on top of Smith after he went for a takedown. Smith got back up but Teixeira took him down. Smith was a bruised and bloody mess. Finally, in the fifth round after Teixeira took him down and hit him with some more shots, the referee called it off. 

Ben Rothwell vs. Ovince Saint Preux

OSP threw a head kick but Rothwell caught and took him down then went for a choke while having him pressed against the fence. Rothwell let it go but landed some body strikes only to let OSP put with a few seconds left. In the second round, Rothwell started to move up the pacing level and got him up against the fence where he landed some good shots. OSP started to wear down at this point and his output was limited. OSP landed a counter left hand that dropped Rothwell to end the second round. In the final round, Rothwell went back to his bread and butter which was clinching and short punches. OSP rocked him with a left hook then a head kick. They had a wild exchange as the round ended with OSP knocking him down after the bell. The judges gave the win to Rothwell by split decision. 

Drew Dober vs. Alexander Hernandez

They mixed it up early with strikes and kicks until Hernadez scored a takedown in the middle of the first round only for Dober to get back to his feet. They briefly clinched. Dober was attempting to press but Hernadez was circling away. The pace of this fight was quite amazing. In the second round, Dober dropped him but Hernadez got backed up. Dober pounced on him but Hernadez scored a takedown. Dober managed to scramble to his feet and then just smashed him up against the fence. Hernadez scored yet another takedown only for Doberg to get back up and landed some hard shots against the fence for the TKO win. 

Ray Borg vs. Ricky Simon

They traded some strikes briefly before Simon took him down and got half guard, Bord managed to get back to his feet moments later and go back to striking. Borg landed a beautiful body combo that stunned Simon. Towards the end of the first round, Simon got a takedown. Opening the second round, some hard shots from Borg, who goes after the takedown, but Simon stuffs it. Simon got another takedown later in the round but once again Borg managed to get back to his feet. Simon found success with a takedown in the third round where he moved to side control. Borg got up but he was taken down seven times in this fight. Simon won the fight. 

Andrei Arlovski vs. Philipe Lins

Round one was all striking. It was close but the former UFC Heavyweight Champion was the highlight reel as he was mixing up his strikes including some spinning attempts. In the second round, Arlovski got caught low and had to take a time out. As the round went on, Arlovski was controlling the pace of the fight with a more relaxed style and picking his shots while Lins was trying to make it a brawl. Once the third round came around, Lins started to let his hands go as he knew he was down on the scorecards and cracked him a few times. In the end, Arlovski got the decision win. 

Michael Johnson vs. Thiago Moises

Johnson kept the pressure on him early and had him back peddling up against the fence. Johnson was quite active as he was blitzing him with strikes to the head and body. Things changed in the second round when Moises immediately shot for a takedown to start the and got the tap with a leg lock for the win.
